ESOL(English for Speakers of Other Languages)Tutors

Interested in helping adults learn English? Classroom assistants and tutors help practice English conversation and run through homework with students in our ESOL class. We will provide training and orientation for persons interested. Volunteers are asked to commit to at least 6-12 weeks of tutoring. Tutoring sessions meet once a week for 1-3 hrs. No Asian language background is necessary.

Translation

We are seeking individuals to help us update and maintain non-English portions or our website, and to assist in contacting potential students for ESOL classes. We are especially looking for Cantonese, Mandarin, or Vietnamese speakers and writers. Volunteer schedule is flexible, and dependent on an individual's schedule. Do you have writing or speaking skills in another Language such as Chinese (all dialects), Vietnamese, Portuguese, Albanian, or Arabic? We often have opportunities for persons interested in helping non-native English speakers with general daily living questions such as: filling-out applications for public assistance, understanding documents written in English, or applying for job/education programs.

Festival Planners! Lunar New Year Festival and August Moon Festival

Our events are strongly volunteer-led so your help is essential to a successful event! QARI puts on the Annual August Moon and Lunar New Year Festivals in the city of Quincy and we are looking for some creative and motivated people who would like to bring in ideas to these upcoming cultural festivals. We need help in areas such as decoration, marketing, and entertainment. This is a great opportunity for people interested in learning about fundraising and large-event planning. August Moon Festival volunteer opportunities start as early as summer and go through the end of August. Lunar New Year opportunities begin in December and go through February. Volunteers spend about 2-3 hrs/week in preparation for the festival.

For more information about volunteering in any of these programs please contact us at our offices M-F, 9:30-5 pm. If you are interested in volunteering please apply here or send an e-mail to Erin Wight for more information.
