Class Descriptions

Beginner Level English

This class is for students who are able to make a twice a week commitment to learn and practice their english. Emphasis will be on listening and speaking. The class is suitable for persons who just recently immigrated to the United States or who have never taken an ESOL class before. The class will be taught in English. Tutoring is available to those who need extra practice with their English.

Advanced Beginner Level English

This class is for working adults interested in improving their skills in English speaking, listening, reading and writing. Classes will include: lecture style instruction, listening and speaking group exercises and workbook exercises. Meeting times will be twice a week for 14 weeks.

Intermediate Level English

This class is for working adults interested in improving their skills in English speaking, listening, reading and writing. Classes include: lecture style instruction, one-on-one tutoring and computer practice using software. This class is suitable for persons who have some experience learning English and who can speak and write a moderate amount of English.

Citizenship Classes

These classes are to help prepare individuals interested in applying for American citizenship. The classes run for 8 weeks and meet once a week. Classes will go over basic knowledge of U.S. Government and History. A standard textbook will be used during the class.

Computers:
Introduction to the Internet

This is a beginner level class on how to use the internet. Students will get an opportunity to sign-up for their own e-mail address, search the internet, and read Chinese websites. No past computer experience necessary. Classes are taught in English though assistance can be provided in Chinese.

Internet 2

This is the follow-up class to an Introduction to the Internet. This class is designed to give students more practice in the skills that they gained from the first class. Students will continue to practice how to search on the internet along with learning about the more advanced features of e-mailing.

Introduction to Word Processing

This class is good introduction to the basics of the computer. Students will learn the concept of double clicking and manipulating window boxes on their desktop. Students will practice computer basics using MS Word and eventually learn how to format their own word documents and posters. No past computer experience necessary. Classes are taught in English though assistance can be provided in Chinese.
